The original PARSEC (PARallaxes of Southern Extremely Cool objects) program aimed to determine distances of 140+ southern brown (spectral types L and T) dwarfs using the WFI camera on the ESO 2.2m.
The NPARSEC program is an extenstion of PARSEC to the SOFI camera on the NTT and intrisically fainter T dwarf objects. The details of the two programs can be found in the project section.
A one line summary would be that we intend to increase the number of objects with parallactic distances to 10 per spectral bin from L0 to T9 as shown in this figure.
